When dental implants first appeared on the oral healthcare scene, they were primarily used to replace a single missing tooth. Over the course of the past two decades, dental implant technology has continued to evolve. Now, dental implants can be used to mount a bridge to replace multiple missing teeth.

The process of installing a dental implant begins with your dentist, Dr. Shelly Ereth Barone, examining the area and taking some X-rays. Then, he can accurately determine if you have sufficient bone structure in order to mount a dental implant. If the you lack sufficient bone structure, Dr. Shelly Ereth Barone might recommend that you receive a bone graft in advance of the implant procedure.

You will need to be fully sedated for the implant treatment, so you will need to arrange to have someone drive you to and from your appointment.

During the implantation procedure, an oral surgeon will make two small channels into your jawbone. A titanium implant is then screwed into each channel. Titanium is the metal of choice because it is biologically inert and will eventually fuse to your jawbone.

In time, the implants will fuse to the bone and our Shelly Ereth Barone team can start the process of fitting the two titanium posts with a bridge.

If you have lost multiple teeth in a row and you are interested in an implant-supported bridge in Metairie, Louisiana, you should call Dr. Shelly Ereth Barone at 504-832-1164 to schedule an appointment.
