What are dental bridges?

Dental bridges are a great way to replace one or more missing teeth. Custom-made dental appliances, dental bridges use replacement teeth to bridge the gap left by one or more missing teeth in a row. There are many types of dental bridges available, based on your individual needs and which teeth are missing. Dr. Shelly Ereth Barone, our experienced dentist, will take the time to discuss your options in order to determine the best route for your smile.

What types of bridges are there?

There are three different types of dental bridges in Metairie, Louisiana:

  • Traditional dental bridges use two dental crowns on the teeth adjacent to the gap to anchor a false tooth, known as a pontic, in place.
  • Cantilever bridges are similar to traditional dental bridges but are used when there are no teeth remaining on one side of the missing tooth. Generally, cantilever brides use two dental crowns right next to each other to hold the bridge in place.
  • Resin-bonded bridges, also known as Maryland bridges, are perfect for replacing missing front teeth. Instead of using dental crowns, your replacement tooth is held in place by metal bands that are cemented (bonded) to the back of the nearby teeth.
